Ray-Ban Meta Update 15.1: What Do We Know?
Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses Update 15.1 Has Been Released
The 15.1 update for the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses has been released.
This update is considered a “version change update” due to its large file size. The download size for version 15.1 is approximately 3400 megabytes. The previous update, version 15.0, was also notably large.
The listed improvements for version 15.1 are literally the same as those in version 15.0. These improvements include:
- Live AI: This feature allows you to activate the AI by saying “Hey Meta, activate Live AI” or “turn Live AI on.” Once activated, users can talk to the AI without having to say “Hey Meta” every time. You can have conversations with the AI about what it sees or ask it random questions.
- Live Translation: Live translation is mentioned, but it’s still limited to a small number of languages. The currently supported languages are French, Italian, Spanish, and English. Users have expressed a desire for other major languages like Chinese, Japanese, or German to be added. Italian is noted as feeling slightly out of place in the initial list.
- Personalization: This refers to the AI’s ability to remember things the user has talked about in past interactions.
- EU Meta AI Expansion: The expansion of Meta AI in the European Union is mentioned, but users outside of Europe say they can’t really comment on it.
- Smart Bit Rate: This feature is also listed as an improvement.
However, despite the large file size and these listed improvements (identical to version 15.0), testers report no noticeable changes in the glasses after installing the 15.1 update. There appears to be nothing new in terms of user experience or visible functionality. No one has reported features working better or worse, and no new functionality has been observed.
Given the lack of apparent changes, testers assume that version 15.1 is mostly a bug-fix update. They note that there are still bugs that could be addressed. Still, some are surprised that if this were purely a bug fix, the update would be numbered 15.1 instead of something like 15.01.
Looking ahead to future updates, testers share a few hopes and feature requests:
- The ability to change the AI used on the glasses, such as switching to Gemini or ChatGPT. While unlikely, it would be a cool option.
- More app integrations, especially with email clients or other social apps like X (formerly Twitter).
- More music apps.
- The ability to control YouTube video playback via voice, even if you can’t watch the video — currently, audio playback is possible.
In summary, update 15.1 is a large update in terms of file size, but lists the same improvements as 15.0, with no noticeable differences reported by testers or the community. This suggests that it’s likely focused on bug fixes, even though the version number suggests otherwise.
